Description
Lady Era (sildenafil for women)
Lady Era contains sildenafil citrate 100 mg in tablet form, marketed for female sexual dysfunction. Sildenafil is not approved by the FDA or EMA for use in women — its licensed indication is erectile dysfunction in men. The clinical evidence picture is complicated: early trials in unselected women with sexual arousal disorder did not show significant benefits, but subsequent studies in specific populations — post-menopausal women and women with SSRI-induced sexual dysfunction — showed more consistent effects. What the data supports is selective benefit in some groups, not universal efficacy.
The PDE5 inhibition mechanism still applies — sildenafil increases blood flow to genital tissue in women as it does in men. Whether that translates to subjective sexual experience improvement varies considerably between individuals.
Dosing
50 mg or 100 mg taken on days when sexual activity is planned, approximately one hour before. An empty stomach produces faster, more reliable absorption. Lower doses carry lower side effect exposure — 50 mg is a reasonable starting point before escalating to 100 mg. Maximum one dose per 24-hour period.
Nitrates
The absolute contraindication for sildenafil with nitrates applies fully to Lady Era. Nitroglycerin, isosorbide preparations, and amyl nitrate combined with sildenafil cause severe, potentially fatal blood pressure drops regardless of the patient’s sex. There is no safe version of this combination.
Contraindications
All nitrates. Severe cardiovascular disease. Significant hypotension or uncontrolled hypertension. Severe hepatic or renal impairment. Retinitis pigmentosa. History of NAION. Hypersensitivity to sildenafil. Strong CYP3A4 inhibitors (ritonavir, ketoconazole) substantially raise sildenafil plasma levels.
Side effects
The side effect profile mirrors that of sildenafil in male patients: headache, facial flushing, nasal congestion, dizziness, indigestion, and visual disturbances — blue tint, increased brightness sensitivity. These are dose-dependent. Serious effects requiring evaluation: chest pain, sudden vision loss, syncope.
