No, Finasteride at a dosage of 1 mg is used for androgenetic alopecia or common baldness, linked to the action of dihydrotestosterone on the hair follicle which is miniaturized with hair loss. Finasteride acts on the testosterone-converting enzyme in dihydrotestosterone or 5 alpha reductase 2. Alopecia areata is instead an autoimmune process that can have different causes that must be discovered and provides a totally different therapeutic protocol.
